Dr. Stefaan G. Verhulst is an expert in the realm of governance and data policy, co-founding The Governance Laboratory (The GovLab) at New York University, which aims to innovate decision-making through scientific and technological advancements. He also co-founded The DataTank in Brussels, a center dedicated to data re-use for public benefit. Verhulst holds a research professorship at NYU’s Tandon School of Engineering and serves as Editor-in-Chief of Data & Policy. His roles extend to directing research at the MacArthur Research Network on Opening Governance, chairing the Data for Children Collaborative with Unicef, and advising on data sharing initiatives for the European Commission and Eurostat. Additionally, he contributes to UNESCO’s Information Ethics Working Group and advises the Markle Foundation, leveraging his prior experience at Oxford University where he was the UNESCO Chairholder in Communications Law and Policy.
