Shungu Gwarinda works for CAMFED – the Campaign for Female, a Pan-African movement supporting girls to go to school, thrive and become influential leaders and changemakers in their communities. CAMFED enables marginalized girls to enrol and thrive in secondary school, graduate into secure livelihoods and positions of leadership; tackling complex factors that undermine girls’ education and improves outcomes. As girls graduate, CAMFED enables their transition to secure work and to step up as leaders and support younger generations. Shungu serves as Executive Director – Africa for Camfed, overseeing execution of its strategy in its 5 countries of operation in Africa. She started her career as a teacher in and progressed into the development sector working with several organisations advancing the rights of women and children – across Southern, East and West Africa. Shungu holds a PhD in Public Administration and her life journey and career have been driven by her interests in transformational leadership and the convergence between the role of state and non-state actors in driving development.
